A multi-stakeholder approach towards operationalising antibiotic stewardship in India’s mixed
health system communities
- The OASIS study consortia co-designed, a novel antibiotic stewardship intervention with multiple
stakeholders to reduce and optimise antibiotic use . Study by research consortium on antibiotic
prescribing by informal providers and paravets in West Bengal
- The project involved meetings with key stakeholders (senior doctors, veterinarians, regulators
and pharmaceutical companies) to discuss strategies for improving antibiotic use in peri-urban
rural communities
- Development of antibiotic use guidelines for rural community based providers in collaboration
with senior doctors with feasibility testing
- Agreement to and development with pharmaceutical companies for a voluntary code conduct for
evidence based marketing of antibiotics
- Local pilot of the application of the guidelines through a digital medium in 2 districts.
Adopting the code of practice and discussion with pharmaceutical companies about strategies for
implementing these guidelines at scale.
