BACKGROUND
This meeting is taking place towards the end of a first phase in the establishment of a
platform for research and mutual learning on improving the performance of mixed health
systems. This has involved convening several consultative workshops and round tables to
discuss lessons emerging with regard to private sector contribution to national health
strategies in the response to COVID 19 and explore interest in participating in future
activities. A report on the outcomes of the consultations and proposals for a next phase of
work has been circulated and will form the basis of discussion.
The participants in this meeting include the researchers, who have taken the lead in
facilitating the series of consultations, the technical team, who have organised these
virtual meetings and the communications activities, leaders of key institutions already
engaged in different aspects of linking research to policy and the management of health
system change and representatives of organisations that have funded the first phase of the
platform's work. The aim is to generate an exchange of ideas and provide guidance and advice
regarding next steps.
OBJECTIVES
The objectives of the meeting are to:
Review of findings of the consultation and the value proposition for the platform
Advise on lessons learned from similar initiatives and identify contributions the platform
can make to other national and international initiatives.
Mobilise strategic, practical and resource commitments for a next phase of establishment of
the platform over the next 1-2 years.
